    Good Morning,

Does anyone on the board happen to have a complete copy of this war diary WO 170/1355 ? I’m off to Kew on July, just wondered if anyone had a copy as I’m dying to read it ! The record states Dec 44 but I’m surmising this will be for the full year.

    Fingers crossed that someone has,

    Thank You,

    Gareth

    Hi Gareth,

I have 3 Welsh Guards from Jan 44 - May 45. What particularly are you looking for?

    Regards,
    Gary.

Hi Gary, apologies for jumping on this thread. I don't suppose you have the war diary for 3 Welsh Guards from May 8th 1943 do you? My Grandfather Leonard Pike was wounded on this day. He was also issued a "Cert for gallantry in action RO 104/43" but I don't know if this relates to May 8th in any way? Many thanks Nic

Hi, sure...the Wd entry doesn't say much because there is a three-page report on the 8th May action.

Gary has been an absolute star in obtaining diaries for me - thank you ever so much ! My great grandfather Glyn Spowart was also wounded at Hammam Lif.

Tony56 who has liked the above post was also kind enough to send a copy of the casualty lists. He was one of the 11 sergeants wounded referenced in the document. He sustained chest and thigh injuries as a result of being mortared.

They list can be found here:

    Massive thanks again Tony.

I will go there one day.

Naturally now I can see more details about my grandfather the quest to find more becomes more compelling! I wonder if there is any way to find why he was awarded, or obtain a copy of, his "certificate of gallantry in action". I can see if was awarded immediately on 13th May 1943 as a commendation, but there are no details given as to why. Or am I asking too much?
