Ian. At the time of his injury, 201 Guards Brigade were tasked with breaking out of Salerno via the San Severino Pass - the one that is due North out of Salerno. They were part of 56 Infantry Division who were given this task. At the same time, 46 Infantry Division were breaking out through the La Molina Pass which is almost due North West out of Salerno. The Germans were conducting delaying operations against both those breakouts and he would have been caught by their defensive artillery fire. Regards Frank
WO2 Peter Wright was awarded the Victoria Cross for an action on 25 Sep 44 during that 201 Gds Bde breakout operation. F
No way Frank !! I left some poppies I got from our local legion and planted a few Welsh poppy seeds I hope they grow .
Ian Hi I am looking at the names of the men on the Frodsham War memorials and wondered if you knew how he came to be on the memorials. 1939 Register lists David at Gwenfryn, Morfa. Do you know if he relocated to Frodsham at some point, or married someone from Frodsham. Many thanks Allen
