Jon, hi. I have been trying to locate the memorial cross for your uncle Tommy for some time now, as I'd like to pay him a visit, to pay my respects but I have no idea as to the exact location. I have visited the area but have had no luck in finding the memorial, and I have asked a couple of other people but I don't think they come on here very often, as I've had no responses. Are you able to pinpoint if for me (on google maps maybe) or otherwise give some detailed directions? I'd be mighty grateful if you could. Thanks in advance, Neill DeVall

Jon, I have been trying to locate the memorial cross for Tommy for some time now, as I'd like to pay him a visit, to pay my respects but I have no idea as to the exact location. As you seem to have been involved in its restoration I wonder if you are able to pinpoint if for me (on google maps maybe) or otherwise give some detailed directions? I'd be mighty grateful if you could. Thanks in advance, Neill DeVall

have you seen this from another forum

However, if you walk west along the Pilgrims Way from where it crosses Birling Hill you will come to footpath MR64 which crosses the Pilgrims Way/North Downs Way. Follow this footpath to the right (north west) and you will see before you the slope of Whitehorse Wood. The cross is exposed on the cleared slope, near a solitary tree. You could also walk down the hill to it from White Horse Road, near Poundgate. You may be able to park as I have been told of a car park near there though I have not parked there myself. If you still need help and if we can find a secure way to communicate (not sure of this site) I can send you a map and photographs.

Phillip, thanks. Yes, I had seen that and used those directions but just couldn't find it. I'm normally pretty good with maps and directions, so very it's frustrating. Cheers.

Clive, thanks. Soz, I realised after I'd replied, you weren't Phillip. I've looked again at directions people have given and maps of the footpath, MR64, and google maps satellite image and as far as I can tell, I was in the right place but saw no sign of any memorial. Twice I went looking for it! Rest assured, once I find it, I'll be updating google maps with its location and maybe post its what3words location too. Cheers

Finally, on the third attempt, I found Tommy's memorial cross. Couldn't have done it without the help of Julie, clerk at Birling Parish Council, who sent me a satellite view of the location on google maps. If anyone wishes to visit, see the attached satellite view or alternatively, you can use the What3Words app and navigate to location ///master.parts.stages
    ( https://w3w.co/master.parts.stages ).

FYI, there's a small car park along Holly Hill on the l/h side for those that don't want to leave their car at the Birling Hill/White Horse Rd/Holly Hill junction.
