6th Guards Tank Brigade, 30 Corps
34928 Major (T/Lt.Col.) The Lord Charles George Vivian TRYON, 4th (Tank) Bn GRENADIER GUARDS

Lt. Col. The Lord Tryon was in command of the 4th (Tank) Bn. GRENADIER GUARDS during operations in support of 44 (L) Infantry Brigade to capture GOCH and KALBECK Woods on 20/21 FEB 45. On several occasions the infantry were separated from the supporting tanks by appalling difficulties of terrain and enemy tank obstacles, but by the utmost determination the tanks always succeeded in reaching the infantry, despite the fact that much of the advance was made in darkness.

During these operations Lt. Col. The Lord Tryon moved continually between his Squadrons despite continuous heavy fire, and was tireless in his efforts to do everything possible to help the infantry forward. The fact that every Bde objective has been take in recent operations and that ideal co-operation exists between infantry and tanks is largely due to the determination of Lord TRYON’s troops.

His brilliant and energetic leadership has had considerable effect on the successful results achieved.

    4 MAR 45.

    Awarded DSO (Immediate)
