Hi thanks for this post. I think this is my grandfather and I am desperate to find out all I can about him. My mother was only 6 when he died and she herself doesnt know to much. Cant you point me in the right direction. Amanda
Amanda, Try here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/allied-units-general/29222-2nd-battalion-royal-scots-fusiliers-soldiers-names.html skimmod has loads of detail regarding 2Bn RSF; including the fact that your grandfather was with the battalion in 1940 on the withdrawal to Dunkirk: " On the 28th of May 1940, along a stretch of the Ypres-Comines Canal, the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers fought a desperate rear guard action so that the British Expeditionary Force could carry out their evacuation at Dunkirk." And I'm sure that you will loads of help from the fine folks here. Roxy
struggling to catch up on all the missed posts! My records show that William joined the battalion in 1930 at the age of 21. He died of septicaemia in a hosptial in India in 1945. My records as yet don't show which company/ platoon he was in during the retreat to Dunkirk, but all will come clear in time. When you get his service record, all will become clear. (if you are able, please share the record, so the museum's archive can include another of the Scots Fusliers heroes. all the best Iain
