Winston Churchill: 'On Christmas Day the limit of endurance was reached and capitulation became inevitable. Under their resolute Governor, Sir Mark Young, the Colony had fought a good fight. They had won indeed the lasting honour which is their due.'

As far as The Royal Scots were concerned, however toughly they had fought in battle, their conduct in captivity was even finer. In the midst of hunger, disease, brutality, they held their heads high. In prison-camp they resisted with courage and dignity all attempts to break their spirit. [Augustus Muir, The First of Foot, 1961, p129.]

We Will Remember. Up the Royals!
