Are you going to be scanning the whole diaries with appendices etc or just the daily action record? Everything will be photographed including operational instructions, messages, intelligence reports and summaries, etc. It's going to be over 1,000 pages. Here's a rough estimate of contents: - Diary pages (circa. 50 pages) - Op Instructions (~200pp) - Battle Logs (~400pp) - Misc (Lots of code names - ~50pp) - Sitreps (~50pp) - Int Sums (~50pp) - SD Notes (~20pp) - ISums (~150 to 200pp) - Out Messages (~150pp)
I got the 30 Corps War Diaries for September. Thank you. The actual diaries are not very revealing but the many hundreds of pages of appendices are fascinating stuff. Detailed Operational Instructions show the amount of planning involved while the messages give an insight into how an operation is actually controlled. Great stuff. One section is labelled SD Notes. Interesting content but what does SD stand for. Clearly everyone at the time knew and did not need it spelled out. Mike
Mike, I was wondering the same regarding the SD notes. Good to hear that the appendices are proving interesting reading. Lee
Not knowing the content of this "Interesting content but what does SD stand for." could it be Structured Defences. Alan
Am interested in copies of the War Diaries (and happy to contribute to costs) for 30 corps. Key interest is the Market-Garden period, and am also interested in the war diaries for Phantom GHQ Liaison Regt - though am unsure if these would be recorded against the unit itself or not. Edit - though have now found this: Reference: WO 171/3455 Description: G.H.Q. Liaison Regt. Date: 1944 Sept. So, a copy of this would be excellent - hope there is correlation to activities of 30 corps. Tim
OK let's have another try at this. The September diary worked out well in the end but took some organising. So the deal is I'll copy any of the diaries in the list below for 8p a page but will split the cost over all those interested. For example if a diary is 1000 pages and 4 people want a copy, it is £20.00 each (1000 x 0.08 / 4). If you're interested in any of the diaries below, please copy and paste the complete list below and add your username next to the required diary, keeping other people's name in the list. As an example I've added Stolpi for Feb and March '45. WO 171/342, G. (1944 Oct.) - WO 171/343, G. Apps. (1944 Oct.) - WO 171/344, G. (1944 Nov.) - WO 171/345, G. Apps. (1944 Nov.) - WO 171/346, G. (1944 Dec.) - WO 171/4075, G.S. (1945 Jan.) - WO 171/4076, G.S. (1945 Feb.) - Stolpi, WO 171/4077, G.S. (1945 Mar.) - Stolpi, WO 171/4078, G.S. (1945 Mar.) - Stolpi, WO 171/4079, G.S. (1945 Apr.) - WO 171/4080, G.S. (1945 May) - We're going to need at least three or four people per diary to bring the price down as most of these are going to be in the 800 to 1,200 page range with all appendices.
Excellent WO 171/342, G. (1944 Oct.) - WO 171/343, G. Apps. (1944 Oct.) - WO 171/344, G. (1944 Nov.) - WO 171/345, G. Apps. (1944 Nov.) - WO 171/346, G. (1944 Dec.) - WO 171/4075, G.S. The February 1945 30 Corps diary is now copied with currently three people interested in a copy. It's just over a thousand pages so if a fourth person is interested that will bring the cost down to £20 each for the four. If more people want a copy then that brings it down even more for all. (£80 / no. of people). So last chance for February 1945. Let me know now if you want a copy. Lee
