3 RTR - December 1944

Discussion in 'RAC & RTR' started by Yorke Scarlett, Feb 9, 2019.

  1. I was in the Dinant area over the last weekend and only realised after I had got back that 29th Armoured Brigade operated in the area to cover the Meuse bridges during the Ardennes Offensive.

Question - Does anyone have a detailed regimental picture as to what 3 RTR where up to east of the Meuse in late December 1944.

Thank in advance for any information

If you want a good, well researched, account of what happened in the Dinant area during the Battle of the Bulge then I suggest you get a copy of 'Hitler's Last Offensive' by Peter Elstob. Copies are nearly always available on eBay for reasonable prices. Peter Elstob served with 3RTR and his tank was one of those furthest forward near Foy Notre Dame, itself the location of the Germans furthest advance. Peter Elstob was also my late fathers Tank Commander at the time!

  4. Thanks for the replies guys.

Chris - Celles 1944 is a good site. I remember passing the chateau that served as 3RTR RHQ and having a beer in the cafe by the bridge at Dinant. Remarkable. Thanks again.
