Hi Everyone, I'm very new to this forum so I hope it's ok to post this. I've been researching my Gran's cousin for quite some time now with no luck whatsoever but today i've managed to get his service records and discovered that he spent 3 years in the 2nd Lothian. His record have him in the North Africa campaign from Nov 1942 to Jan 1946. There is so much information on your previous posts already which I'm now going to work through as I would like to understand as much as I can about him and what he experienced but - and I know this is an incredible long shot - I just wondered whether there was anyone on this forum who might have served there or who had a relative who might know of him. There is very little information available about him sadly for various reasons but he was Peter Alan Stevens. He was 19 when he enlisted and it seems that after the war he went to Tripoli where he disappeared in December 1948. Nobody knows why or what happened to him. I've now discovered that he had left the army by this point. Thank you, Andrea
Welcome to the forum Andrea. Don't know a lot about the 2 Lothians - my interest is the 1st Battalion. The 1945 War Diary for the 2 Lothians has been upload into a gallery on this site here You may also be interested in joining the Lothians facebook group which covers both. Good luck in your research!
Separate to the specific research about Peter Stevens, you can trace 2nd Border and Lothian Horse's role as part of 26th Armoured Brigade from North Africa to the north of Italy in Ken Ford's book
Thank you both. I've read the war diaries now and also joined the facebook page. Thanks also for the link to the book - i've ordered that now. Thanks again for your help.
Andrea. I am a guide for Monte Cassino and the 2 Lothians & Border were there in the Fourth Battle in May 44 as the Armoured Regiment supporting 12 Infantry Brigade. I am happy to share with you what I have. I will message you now. Regards Frank
Hi Frank, I'm the Admin for the 2nd Lothians and Border Horse Yeomanry Facebook Group. Would you like to join the FB group and share what can with us? The more info people know, the more they connect and the more likely they are to visit Monte Cassino! https://www.facebook.com/groups/217119904993/
The transcription of the 2L&BH War Diaries made 2002 sadly contains several hundred errors and is missing several pages of information. I am currently re-transcribing the three diaries that cover 1939-1946. I hope to complete 1939-1944 by the end of March 2020. Hereward
Hi Andrea, hope you're still following the thread. Where was Peter born? Was he born in Scotland and would you know his mother's maiden name?
