    Hi
Does anyone have any information on 2nd Battalion The Lincolnshire Regiment between 1939 and 1945?
I already have the war diaries from NA.
    Thanks

    Hi & welcome PegasusGary.

What is your specific interest in the 2nd Lincolns as this may help in getting some replies.

You have the war diaries, so are in possession of more information than probably most of us hold.

Here are a couple of threads about specific persons, which you may or may not find interesting.

A contingent of the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps served under the command of the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment in North-West Europe during 1944-45. The Corps had also served under the Lincolnshire Regiment during the First World War.

There is also a book of almost the same title and same publisher covering the years 1919 - 1950 by Lionel Chasemore Gates (who served in the Lincolns), also published in 1953. Is this the same book?

I noticed that some of the Lincolns casualties headstones have of Bermuda under their names.

Must be the same book and I think it should be '1950'. Will check tonight to see which of us is to blame!

I'm interested as the author was the Officer i/c HQ Company of the 7th Lincolns and the Major i/c 338 Battery of 102 LAA Regt, RA when they converted. My Dad's units during WW2.

Here is some more detail on the Bermuda contingent with the 2nd Lincolns:

The Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps renewed their connection with the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1944. During the First World War, a detachment of the Corps saw service with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in France. During a quiet period late September 1944 after the Escaut crossing, the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment received two lieutenants and fifty soldiers of the Corps who served with the battalion for the remainder of the campaign in North-West Europe.

The contingent joined on September 21st, 1944 at Haps.Major A.W.F. Smith brought with him about fifty of these 'fine soldiers' as stated in the regimental history. Early one this contingent was received by the 8th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Major Smith had been the company commander of 'C' Company for a time with the 8th Battalion. The best of the contingent eventually found its way to the 2nd Battalion in Europe.

My father was Private and then Cpl in the 2 Lincolns from Day until 1947. He often spoke of the brave lads from Bermuda, several of which arrived as BCR's in late April early May 1945 when the Battalion was about to assault an airfield in Germany. My father said the new men from Bermuda all volunteered and several were killed in the action. I am unable to verify this as I only have limited info with regard to War diaries of the 2 Lincolns. Certainly the Royal Anglians still have an exchange posting with the Bermuda Regiment.

I believe that my fathers Company Commander Major Glynn Gilbert OC of C Company was from Bermuda.
