    Hi chaps

This is a Comet of the 2nd Forth and Fife Yeomanry, 29th Armoured Brigade, 11th Armoured Division dated 01.03.1945. Reputedly carrying troops of the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment; however the Cheshires are only supposed to have only been attached to 11 Div from 06.04.1945 so I'm not sure if that's correct?

So...could photo date be wrong, or is it not the Cheshires, or is the date they became attached wrong?

Mainly I'd like to confirm the date and location of the photo.

    Or is it me :~)

    Any thoughts?

The caption text says 30 April.

Thanks Chris - I completely missed that, just looking at the date it was supposed to have been taken.

    There's an old thread here...

IWM - description errors, mysteries and "possible" solutions?

The caption cards, I think, are generally quite reliable...

FIELD MARSHAL MONTGOMERY AT THE ALBERT CANAL

Whereas the descriptions often carry the typos... ;-)

    B9975 - Object description
Original wartime caption: Field Marshal Montgomery and Gen. Hottocks stand up in the car to get a better view of the area. In the background is the bridge over the canal which the enemy only partially demolished in the haste of his retreat.
