In short, the battalion crossed the river at Campomarino and was ordered to occupy the ridge at grid reference 8173. At 4pm they were digging in when five shells landed in the battalion area. Given the lack of any other combat that day I believe this may be when your Uncle was killed. Contemporary map below, with location marked on Google map. Regards, Gary.

Many many thanks ! it sounds like this was the area he lost his life . we visited the cemetery where he is buried pre COVID . We will visit again next year and visit the villages about on the map . Sincere thanks John
