I found this Nominal Roll while looking for information on other units.

2nd Battalion The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, on embarkation on the Empress of Canada, Halifax, dated 14 Mar 1942.

The order of the pages is how I found them in the Ship’s File

NOTE: Their is a second British Unit in this file that I will post separately.

2nd Battalion, The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry

The battalion started the war in Jamaica and remained in Jamaica with a detached company in Bermuda until May 12th, 1940. The Battalion HQ and main body were then taken by Canadian destroyers to take over the Royal Dutch Oil Company refineries on Curacao. ‘W’ Company of the battalion was detached to occupy Aruba on July 6th, 1940 and remained there until September 3rd, 1940, when it was relieved by the 4th Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. The Bermuda Detachment left Bermuda for Curacao on June 18th, 1940.
On February 13th, 1942, the 2nd Battalion, along with the 4th Camerons, left Curacao by United States Navy destroyers for New Orleans. The battalion arrived at New Orleans on February 19th and moved overland by train to New York City, where it arrived on February 23rd. While in the New York area it was located in barracks at Fort Slocum on Long Island Sound. It remained there until it travelled by train to Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. It embarked at Halifax on March 13th, 1942. It arrived at the Clyde on March 22nd, 1942 and disembarked on the 23rd. On its arrival in the United Kingdom the battalion moved by train to the east coast of Northumberland and then moved by road to Middlesborough. In April 1942 it moved to Mistley and Maningtree in Essex to update equipment and do field training.

Thank you for adding more info. I have just added the 4th Bn Camerons on a second thread. Mr Jinks, Heritage Canadiana has the digital files of all ship movements from Canada. When searching for Canadian units I occasionally come across interesting info on other units so normally i copy them and place in a file. So always happy to search for units or names in these file IF i have either a date they may have sailed on or a ship name or a unit. There are hundreds of names of Commonwealth air and ground crew also.

    cheers

Fantastic ,great to know . I always look for my local Durham Light Infantry but I`m not sure they had any Canadian or US journeys ,with the exception of the CANLOAN personnel of course. Always nice to find another research avenue so thanks again for posting .
