I wonder if anyone has the detail of the 1st QOCH War Diary for June 1945?

I've been researching my local war memorial for a while, and I'm a bit stuck on some of the details for one man CSM John Marshall [2925883] who drowned on 8th June and is buried at Gauhati War Cemetery. I'm trying to establish whether his death was an accident, and whether it was connected to the death on the same day of Pioneer S. D. Francis [312807] of the Indian Pioneer Corps who is buried next to him.

I have contacted the National Archives who hold a service record for John, but I'm aware that it might take ages for information to come view that route, and I'm not able to visit Kew to look at the record myself.

    Any assistance appreciated!

Casualty lists have Marshall as, "died as result of accident".

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Since posting, the copy of his service file has arrived from the National Archives, which confirms that he was attached to the staff of 37 Indian Reinforcement Camp, rather serving with the rest of his battalion.

The file confirms that his death was concluded to be a result of accidental drowning, as a result of losing his footing in the dark and falling into a river while making his way to/from his accommodation. His death appears to be completely unconnected to the death on the same day as Pioneer Francis.
