I have a 1940 BSA WM20 which states on it's keycard that the unit which had the bike was the 288 ROY RA. I have been told that it is most probably the 288th Battery or Regiment of the Royal Artillery, any further info on this would be much appreciated as I would like to 'badge' the bike accordingly.

    Many thanks Pete

    Hi petethebike

    124th Field Regt RA
    93rd HAA Regt RA
    102 Anti/Tank Regt RA
All had a 288 Bty, so more info needed.
There was also a 288 LAA Regt RA in the 1950,s

Unfortunately the 'Key Cards' deal with the change from wartime census numbers to post-war registrations from 1948 onwards as the new system was introduced, reducing the chances of a link to the wartime user.

Units shown are generally those from which the vehicle was sent for eventual disposal and this can be up until the early 1970s at least.

I'd suspect that the answer lies with the army of the 1950s or 1960s.
