Hi, I am currently researching 1453257 Gnr CES Marks who served in this battery before moving onto 1 Air Landing Regt RA, does anybody know where I can find some information on this and his other units? Cheers, Rick
Hello Rick As we always say the service records are the way to go Get a copy of military service records 283 Light Anti-Aircraft Battery RA | ParaData regards Clive
Hi, can't at the moment, Gnr Marks died in 2006 (age 91) so I have to wait another 10 years to apply for his papers! Rick
You can apply now and you will get a reduced version of his service. you will receive something like the below You also need to get hold of the war diaries I am sure other forum members will offer more advice/info Apply for the records of someone who's deceased You can apply for a copy of someone else’s service records if any of the following apply: you’re their immediate next of kin, for example their spouse or parent you’ve got consent from their immediate next of kin you have a general research interest - you’ll only have access to limited information, unless they died more than 25 years ago You need to know the person’s full name, date of birth and service number.
Thanks, is it on the same form and costs the standard £30? Is there any particular way or wording you have to use when filling out the form? Cheers, Rick
Hello Rick, I hope this previous WW2 Talk thread (link below) will be of interest to you (a link within that thread will take you to The Imperial War Museum website where reel 4 has some footage of 1st Airlanding Brigade gunners prior to the invasion of Sicily) Airborne in North Africa Good luck with all your endeavours. Kind regards, always, Jim.
Are you next of kin or do you know anyone who is You will get the full records if you go that route Ignore my previous post looks like you might only get the below info and still have to pay £30 Note that if you are not the immediate Next of Kin or do not have the consent of the Next of Kin* then for a period of 25 years following the date of death the only information that will be disclosed to you is surname; forename; rank; service number; regiment/corps; place of birth; age; date of birth; date of death where this occurred in service; the date an individual joined the service, the date of leaving; good conduct medals (i.e. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (LS&GCM)), and any orders of chivalry and gallantry medals (decorations of valour) awarded, some of which may have been announced in the London Gazette.
