A new member asked about 2777 Squadron - RAF Regiment. Unfortunately, the post was lost due to hacker activity. Hopefully, the member will return. I couldn't find a lot of info on the Squadron's activities during the war but here's what I found on the net. 2777 Squadron Formed as No 777 Squadron at Evanton on 19 December 1941, having been unnumbered from the previous April. On 1 February 1942 all RAF Regiment Squadrons had 2000 added to their numbers. Converting to the Field squadron role in March 1943, it joined 2nd Tactical Air Force in April 1944, becoming an Armoured Car Unit in July, moving to the continent in Augustbeing based at Beny-sur-Mer until moving to Grimbergen, where it was during Operation 'Bodenplatte' (the Luftwaffe attack on Allied airfields on 1 January 1945). It later moved to Hamburg, Fassberg, Achmer and in 1946, Celle. The squadron was disbanded by being renumbered No 4 Squadron on 21 August 1947. During its time in Europe, one member of the squadron was awarded the BEM and another was mentioned in despatches. Hi The photo relates to No 4 Flight of 2777 and I understand that it was taken near Nijmegan, probably January 1945. My dad is sitting on the Humber LRC, third one up on the left. For the record only half the squadron was at Grimbergen on 1/1/45 but received joint credit for bringing down several FW190 using vehicle based weapons, eg Brens.

My Dad isn't in this picture, but as you are aware from my pictures in the gallery, your Dad and mine were in the same car. I have his service record and the RAF have given me as much information as they can. However there is no mention of him being in Grimbergen, or in fact Middleburg, Walcheren Island. Short of spending some time at Kew, there is little else I can find out. If you have any more info I'd be glad to hear it. Thanks again.
Hi The Service Records give the absolute minimum info. The Squadron Operations Record Book at Kew is well worth getting into. i'll look up my records and l let you have the reference numbers. The run to Walcheren was an away trip for part of No4 Flight and is covered in some detail in an appendix to the ORB. I am not 100% certain that my Dad is driving the first LRC in that photo but in some post-war reunion photos he is always with the guy manning the Bren. I remember seeing the photo when I was small but my copy came from the photo-archive at the Imperial War Museum. No4 Flight was not at Grimbergen at the time referred to. Was your Dad alawys with 2777. It became an Armoured Car Squadron in July 1944 from four Field Squadrons. My Dad was in 2804 Squadron prior to that.
Hi, Yes my Dad was attached to 2804 Sqn, and he is the one manning the Bren in that picture. He was attached to 2804 Sqn on August 11th 1941, but I have no information on his time with them. I really must make that trip up to Kew. I don't have any photo's of any reunions, to be honest I wasn't aware that he'd been to any. Did you look at all the photo's in my gallery? I just assumed that the shot of him seated with three chaps standing behind him was a group shot of the crew of his armoured car, but I'm only guessing. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1997 and he would never talk about what he did over there. Thanks again for your time.
