I am looking for information on the following man. Sgt Merlin Jones he was born 11 November 1919 at 65 Brigdend Road, Maesteg , Glamorgan, Wales and he died in 14 February 1979. His army service number is 2735594. He joined up before WW2 and was a professional soldier. he may have transferred to the 2 Btn as he was in the Armoured Division.

How can I find out about his service in the Army? Is there any other way other than getting his Army Service record?

No mention of Serg. Merlin Jones in the WG History's index.

From Welsh Guards at War, Maj LF Ellis, pgs 129-139:

Thank you for all the information on the action Merlin Jones was wounded in. Very interesting read. I see he also got the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal in 1953 so he must have transferred from 3 rd Btn as it was disbanded in 1947.

    Hi,

just come across this thread and having checked. My database, I have a letter either from, to or mentioning Merlin in my archive here. The chap it’s connected to (I have a few of his letters) was KIA on Cerasola with 3WG.

I’ll check it over the next few days and get back to you.

    Thank you,

    Gareth
