Hello Folks and a Happy Memorial Day, My Uncle John Patrick Lally was KIA during WW!!. He was a member of the Irish Guards and is buried in Holland. My father, who died in 2007, never once talked about his brother John. Their parents left them and they were tossed back and forth from one set of grandparents to another. My mother, who died 15 yrs. ago, never had much info on my Dad or Uncle either. Anyways, I have a picture of my Uncle in uniform with a newspaper clipping that reads: Irish-Born Corporal John Patrick Lally, of Fartown. serving with the 3rd. Battalion, Irish Guards, died on October 9, 1944 from wounds sustained during the Guards advance on Arnhem. Cpl. Lally, who was 23, was buried in Holland. He left a wife, and a baby daughter whom he never saw. I have a few questions mostly regarding the Irish Guards. Google doesn't answer everything. I served on board the USS Hewitt DD-966 from 75 to 78. I was a stew- burner! (cook) Anyhow take care everyone Tom Lally Chicago

No worries happy to help, that's a cracking thread and the hard work isn't mine, so I can't take any credit tbh. Suggest you post on there mentioning the date to see if he can't give you further info.
Hi Tom and welcome to the forum...As WNC says there's quite a lot of IG stuff on here thanks to DBF. May I suggest using the search facility as there will be quite a few returns I'm sure. May I also ask if it's possible for you to post the picture? I know of at least one person who would like to see it. Happy Searching Regards Andy
DBF would be the best source about this, see knows a lot about the IG as here dad also served with them in holland, Maarheeze had a field hospital in a monastery, and a number of men are still buried there, I must have a photograph of the grave if you are interested
