Hi, I'm interested in Lance Corporal Alfred Wright's files (last one on the list above). I'm hoping to get to the Archives soon and am preparing a list of things to find. I'd be interested in knowing whether the files contain any more information than above?

    Thanks in advance
    Pete

    Hi Pete,

It's been a while since I transcribed the file but, from the info above it looks likely he was one of many liberated POWs contacted about comrades still on the Missing list. Most responses to these enquiries were negative.
If you give me a day or two, I'll put the images up on Gallery album and add link to this thread. You can then browse the file.

If you haven't already done so, check at Kew for a Liberation report for him - like these

Hi dbf, apologies I've only just read your reply. Alfred's account was negative. The below is our current entry in our book for Alfred. I'm waiting for his son to send me some more info and also photos:

Lance Corporal Alfred Wright, of the 1st Battalion, The Irish Guards, was captured in the Anzio beachhead in Italy on 4th February. Alfred joined the Army in August 1940, and in February 1943, he was posted to Algiers with the First Army, where he took part in the North African campaign, before going to Italy. He resided with his wife, Mary (nee Sherburn) at 22 Laburnum Road, Cadishead. Mary was the sister of Ordnance Mechanic Frank Sherburn, Royal Navy. Alfred and Mary had married on 20th July 1940 at St Mary’s Church, Cadishead.

    Thanks once again
    Pete
