    POW Report
Date and Place of Capture: SALOUK near BENGHASI, 21 September 1942
Date and Place of Final Escape: CROTTA D/ADDA, 10 September 1943
Date of Arrival in Switzerland: 24 September 1943

Brief Circumstances of Capture: During a Commando raid on BENGHASI I was in a truck when Messerschmitts came over and the driver was wounded. I volunteered to stay with the driver. He was so badly wounded that he needed medical attention to save his life so I took him to Italian lines where they would pick him up and was caught myself.

    Where Imprisoned:
Palm Tree Grove from 21 September 1942 to 25 September 1942
    75 BARI from 30 September to 1 December 1942
    70 Porto St. Giorgio from 2 December 1942 to 15 March 1943
    55 Crotta D'Adda 16 March 1943 to 10 September 1943, employed on Farm Work

Details of Final Escape and Subsequent Journey until take over by Organisation:
On the 10 September we took over the Camp as there were only six guards, they would not let us go. We stayed two days in the fields, decided to come to SWITZERLAND, procured maps and set out.

    Name and Address of Helper:
LOMBARDO, Gino, Crotta D'Adda, near CREMONA; Food, lodging, maps and money. Took us across the river Adda in a boat.

    Escape Information:
I walked from Crotta D'Adda to Como. In Como we took a train to Sondrio. Then we walked over Mt. Disgrazia over the Border into Switzerland.

    Hi Diane,

    Thanks for posting.

Can you make out where Gdsn Stainrod completed his questionnaire?

Officers signature looks like he was 2nd Lieutenant 1st ESR - wonder if that is the Canadian Essex Scottish Regiment?

    Regards

    Steve
