2717566 Guardsman Michael Joseph KIELY, 2nd Bn. Irish Guards
At the Hook of Holland on 14th May, 1943 Guardsman KIELY was Medical Orderly in the Regimental Aid Post of the 2nd Battalion Irish Guards, during a severe air raid.
A bomb hit the edge of the dug out in which the Post was situated and, although it appeared probable that the roof would collapse Guardsman KIELY continued to carry on with his work tending to the wounded.
Largely as a result of his example there was no panic or confusion among the civilians who were being attended to as well as other wounded.
In my opinion he showed the greatest coolness, devotion to duty and disregard for personal safety throughout a most difficult period.
    Lieutenant-Colonel J.C. HAYDON, DSO, OBE
