My Grandad John Hodgkinson served with the 270 SQN. I always thought he was with "The Kings Own" regiment, but came across an old army address book fr 270 SQN. How do I find out where his regiment was during WW2, is it best to apply for his military records?Thank you

It is quite possible to belong to the Kings Regiment and 270 Forward Delivery Squadron. A Forward Delivery Squadron was responsible for holding and sending forward replacement vehicles and/or crews to the armoured regiments of an armoured brigade. There were personnel from each regiment working with the Forward Delivery Squadron.

The Service Records are the usual starting point.

If you have his service number you could try to locate the corps/regiment that allocated this. From 1941 onward most men went into the General service Corps for basic training and were then posted to another unit.
