I am trying to find information about my Grandfather's service - I have managed to track his Regimental number and found he served with the above regiment. I don't really know how to go any further! Would love to know what he was doing during his time in Palestine and maybe find out about his regiment's movements etc. Is anyone able to help or direct me to useful places to look please?

    Luci,

    Welcome aboard.

It would help if you added your grandfather's full name, Service Number (not a regimental number), an address possibly where he lived pre-1939 and any official documents you already have (scan them and upload to here). The sleuths here can do their research.

We always recommend you apply for his service record, held by the National Archives (TNA) or the MoD. It can take up to a year to arrive. It is the definitive record on his time serving. (Details on how to apply on PM next).

The easy "go to" reference site for the Royal Artillery has a brief history of the 7 / 7th Medium Regiment, which had two batteries the 27th / 29th. See: 7 Medium Regiment RA - The Royal Artillery 1939-45

Note it has no history after June 1944, when the regt. was in NW Europe. This move from Italy before D-Day happened to several divisions and other units. There is no Wiki for them.

There is a regt. history, pub. 1951, held by the IWM, London; it may be in other libraries or can be purchased online. See: The history of the 7th Medium Regiment Royal Artillery (now 32nd Medium Regiment R.A.) during World War II, 1939-1945 and https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Medium-Regiment-Artillery-1939-1945/dp/B00172ZTCE

If you search online with "7th medium regiment" site:ww2talk.com it will identify approx. x20 threads here which mention them. One Google text suggests they were not in artillery mode when in Palestine post-war as the insurgency developed.

    27/28 Battery listed on here:

7 Medium Regiment RA - The Royal Artillery 1939-45

After June 1944 7th Medium moved to NW Europe with 5 AGRA
5 Army Group RA - The Royal Artillery 1939-45

A number of options to buy the book on line. Price depends on condition.
Depends if you want it as a reference for information or to look nice on a book shelf:

    7th Medium Regiment - AbeBooks

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Medium-Regiment-Artillery-1939-1945/dp/B00172ZTCE

To get more info we would need his Name and Army Number as suggested in Davidbfpo post above..

    Luci,
If you have any letters or photos they might come in Handy as well.

Don't forget to follow this route it should list where and when he joined up and the postings as to where he actually went.
Get a copy of military records of service
