268424 Lieutenant Ernest Thomas George RANDALL, Royal Engineers: 21/01/1945

  1. Thank you Chris! That’s a really interesting piece of information you have there. I think there’s too much similarities for it to not be about Lt Ernest Randall.
Could you please tell me what the first word of his occupation is? I have trouble deciphering it, my bad.

    Looks like Draughtsman to me.

  3. Wow, that’s so interesting! Very cool to know what he did pre-war.
Thank you so much for helping me piece everything together! :)

According to google Flat 2 Torre Court is at 40 The Avenue, Yeovil.

  5. Thank you for sharing! Looks like such a lovely house. Can’t help but wonder if that tree was already there back then, haha.
Those records don’t hold any information about any kids living in those houses?

Anyone born less than 100 years ago has their info 'blacked out' unless they are known to be deceased.
As this entry has a name blacked out living at the same address you could assume it could be their child, though that is not always the case. Sometimes an in-law or lodger could be living with a couple at the same address.

  7. Ah, hence the black lines with “case officially closed” in the picture.
Thank you for explaining! Understandable from a privacy view, not so when doing research haha. Makes me wonder if it’s indeed their child and the Nicola Randall I saw on Ancestry. If so, it would explain why my Facebook search reached a dead end aswell as there was no one around that age.

Can I please ask you one more thing? Is the ARP Warden referring to Lt Randall aswell? And if so, the red notes for his wife Norah too? What does it say if that’s the case and any more information on that?
Once again, thank you so much for helping out! Can’t state enough how much I appreciate all the help on here!

Yes - the note 'ARP Warden' relates to him.
Maybe there are some records relating to Yeovil's ARP somewhere with his name?

That 'See instructions' column on the '39 register was not copied for the purposes of digitizing the record, and irritatingly the notes can sometimes disappear off the page. The note in red I believe is 'See continuation sheet'. Unfortunately the continuation sheet wasn't digitised.
Here is a larger scan of the page. As you can see some of Randall's neighbours were also with the ARP.

  9. Too bad that the continuation sheet isn’t digitised.
At least I have some reading to do again on the ARP. I’ll also contact the sources you shared with me. Fingers crossed they’ll have something about him.
