I first came across this grave in Feb 2010.The grave then was in a very poor state.I reported it to CWGC with follow up chases. Due process had to be followed before permission to erect a CWGC Headstone could be confirmed. The timescale could be up to 18 months before the new Headstone arrives Today I received an email from CWGC Dear Clive I am pleased to report that permission to erect a commission headstone at the foot of the grave has been granted and the headstone order has been placed. We wish to thank you for your assistance. Kind regards Kerry Groves Administration and Facilities Supervisor TURNER, CYRIL FRANK Rank: Serjeant Service No: 2652095 Date of Death: 25/07/1947 Age: 36 Regiment/Service: Coldstream Guards Grave Reference Sec. T. Grave 53. Cemetery HARROW (EASTCOTE LANE) CEMETERY Additional Information: Husband of Isabella Turner, of South Harrow.

    Dear All

    Thank you for your comments.

I was also in communication with the local council. The main challenge was attempting to find the family who would approve the placing of the new headstone. It became clear that family members could not be found.
I will add that I can see the enormous challenge CWGC has within the UK with many local authorities to deal with and a great number of private graves that families no longer attend through many reasons which require maintenance and the Casualty requiring commemoration.

    regards
    Clive

Just received an update from CWGC

    Dear Clive

Thank you for your e-mail of 8th March 2013 regarding proposed Commission headstone to mark the grave of Serjeant Cyril Frank Turner in Harrow (Eastcote Lane) Cemetery. I apologise for the delay in my reply but we are currently working to clear a large back log of enquiries.
The headstone has been ordered and is currently awaiting manufacture. This may take sometime due to the large amount of replacement headstones currently in production.
I will of course contact you as soon as we have been informed that this work has been completed.
    Yours sincerely

A new headstone has been put in place.
It has taken over 3 years from my first reporting the condition of the grave to CWGC and contacting the local council to gain permission.

Photographs of the headstone .The CWGC staff who installed it kindly agreed for me to photograph them.
