He continuously attended to and evacuated the wounded under very heavy shell, mortar and M.M.G. fire with complete disregard for his own personal safety. While the Battalion was on the Western ridge of DJEBEL BOU AOUKAZ this Guardsman and another worked together without any supervision, and never failed instantly to attend to a considerable number of casualties which occurred during ten days of shelling. One instance of great gallantry was noted on 4th May when this Guardsman with another left their slit trenches under heavy mortar fire and evacuated some badly wounded men to the Regimental Aid Post which itself was under fire.
