    24th Guards Brigade, 1st Division, 6 Corps
2618589 War Substantive Corporal, Lance-Sergeant James Leslie WILKINSON, 5th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    In the ANZIO Bridgehead operations.

This N.C.O. was a Stretcher Bearer sergeant throughout the period 24th January - 10th February. He has shown outstanding leadership and devotion to duty at all times.

At APRILIA he took a party of Stretcher Bearers 400 yards in front of our positions under shell fire to rescue a wounded German.

At CAROCETO railway lodge he twice went out and brought in wounded men under intense fire, once during shelling and once under machine gun fire.

He had never failed in his duty and at all times his cheerful conduct and quick response to calls for "Stretcher Bearer" have been an inspiration to the Stretcher Bearers when he led and a source of admiration and encouragement to those who saw him at work.

Signed E.J.B. NELSON, M.C., Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 5th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Granted an Immediate M.M.
