On his own initiative he sent back reports on enemy gun positions, transport movement and infantry activity and was largely responsible for the silencing of several mortar positions owing to this work, which was done under heavy and almost continuous mortar and artillery fire for six days. 2. During a night attack on the North End of the above-named feature, this Guardsman was entirely responsible for silencing an enemy spandau post single-handed, killing the crew with grenades and a schmeiser pistol and bringing in another schmeiser which he captured. The influence this Guardsman's example had on the rest of his Platoon was incalculable. Signed Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS Granted an Immediate M.M.
