    201st Guards Brigade, 56th Division, 10 Corps
2614175 War Substantive Corporal, Paid Lance-Sergeant Verdun BUCK, 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Mt. CAMINO, Point 819, 7th November - 9th November 1943.

Through casualties this Lance-Sergeant took Command of his Platoon and during the morning of 8th November beat off three separate counter-attacks, moving from post to post encouraging his men.

During this he was seriously wounded. Though in great pain he got himself into a position in which he could best control the platoon and refused to have his wounds dressed until he had reorganized his position and made it secure.

His coolness, leadership and complete disregard of enemy fire were an inspiration to his Platoon and to all who beheld it.

Signed Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Recommended for Immediate D.C.M.
    Granted Immediate M.M.
