This Guardsman was outstanding during a night attack on the above-named feature. When his Company was caught in a hostile mortar concentration on their Start Line, this Guardsman at once started joking and cheering his comrades on. On arriving at the objective this Guardsman took charge of seven others who were lost and proved himself to be a born leader with sound tactical ideas. Though wounded in the eye he refused to leave and continued to lead his Section, handling the bren gun himself, and cheering on any who came near him with jokes and words of encouragement throughout the night until ordered to report to the Regimental Aid Post next morning by his Company Commander. Signed W. KINGSMILL, Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS Granted an Immediate M.M.
