Listed on the Brookwood Memorial for the 3rd July 1945 are the following deaths from 247 Motor Boat Company.

Warrant Officer Class II STEVENS KENNETH, 'T/110971' Royal Army Service Corps 247 Motor Boat Coy.
Private ELSON JACK DALE, 'T/4920250' Royal Army Service Corps 247 Motor Boat Coy.
Lance Corporal BURROUGH JOHN STANLEY, 'T/128471' Royal Army Service Corps 247 Motor Boat Coy.
Serjeant ROWLAND JOHN, 'T/197703' Royal Army Service Corps 247 Motor Boat Coy.

Does anybody have any idea how the four soldiers came to be lost?

    Regards,

    Steve

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for that. I see the other two casualties (Pte's Crawford and James) are recorded on the Athens Memorial.

Confusingly, all the information I had regarding the loss of Elisabeth Therese, had the vessel sinking on the 4th July 1945. As the report you've attached shows, this is incorrect.

    Regards,

    Steve

Interestingly, there is a photo of WO2 Kenneth Stevens on Ancestry and a little write up about the units he served in. Also, I see he had been awarded an MiD too.

    Hi

This is very useful info. Thanks.

Does anyone know when 247 Motor Boat Coy arrived in Greece? And where from? (eg ME, Italy)

If they were there in Dec 44/Jan 45, does anyone have their war diaries over this period?

    Hi

More 247 Motor Boat Company casualties.

Drifter "Lucien Gourgy" (WT-143) got lost in bad weather, struck a mine and sunk off SKAITHOS on 21 Feb 1945. Just one survivor - Cpl T D Carrigan.

Brigadier Hards was the Chief Engineer of 3 Corps, later renamed HQ Land Forces and Military Liaison (Greece) who had asked for a lift back to Athens as the bad weather was preventing him flying.

    Hope this helps

Hi my name is Debbie Weaver and I'm looking for some advise that my grandfather served in British WWII Army or Navy. I know he was on the Elizabeth Theresa and was a survivor, he spoke of this many times. I have not been able to find any of his military records. I have attached pictures of him in the military and pictures of the Elizabeth Theresa and crew members. He won five medals through his service. His name was Alford Rustage, born in 1910. I live in America, I'm not sure where to go now to find his military records as I have tried everything I can think of. If anybody has any advise, I would really appreciate it. Attached below are pictures and documents.

Sorry, I spelled his first name wrong it should be Alfred Rustage. I feel that he should be recognized for his service and I have not found a record for him. I have attached an additional picture.

Hi Debbie you can contact the ministry of defence They are in Hayes middlesex and ask for advice on how to obtain service records . or contact historical disclosures they are in Glasgow I think. You can also apply for any medals awarded if you havent already

There are also the Commander war diaries which you can visit the PRO in kew to view or I have copies of most of it i can let you have referring to the 247 coy. A couple of excerpts have already been posted above

Incidently my Dad was also in the 247 coy serving in Africa and then Italy. If you or anyone has any info to share Id be delighted

    Regards
    Kevin

Hi Kevin, Thank you for answering my post, I will try the contacts you have mentioned above. I tried all the other websites and it is like my grandfather never exisited. I found his name twice on the paperwork Danny M posted above, it states my grandfather was the Chief Engineer MSS on the Elizabeth Therese. I would really appreciate any paper you have. When my Grandad passed most of the information went with him. I have no paperwork from his time in the service, just pictures of him in his Military clothes and a copy of a picture of the Elizabeth Therese. The reason I know that the picture is of the Elizabeth Therese one day I asked my grandad why he had a picture on his wall of a ship. My grandad then told me the ship name was Elizabeth Therese and that unfortunately it had sunk and some men had lost their lives. He told me the story about how he and several other men made it to shore. If you would like a copy of the picture I can post for you, I also no he had 5 different Medals, because when I was little I took the to school to share. Thank you again for your help.

    Hi

MSS probably stood for Machinist Staff Sergeant which I believe was a rank in the RASC.

    Hope this helps
