Looking for photographs or information about 246/247 Battery, 8th Medium Regiment Royal Artillery, SEAC/Burma, November 1944–November 1945. My grandfather was Samuel William Davis, 247 Battery. I have family letters from Burma and would love to find any battery group photos, gun crew photos, or references in war diaries/albums or really anything related to this time and these units….thank you in advance!

    Well no it isn't David.
    THIS is the main thread.

I already provided a link to this thread on Thursday. As usual you didn't read the full thread where I said members should follow this one, but you have replied to the other thread. It's so bloody annoying to be honest

    Welcome aboard,

We always recommend applying for the subject's full service record (except the Scots Guards). Yes, it may take a year to arrive - either from the MoD or National Archives (TNA). It is not available online and is the definitive record. There is nothing you can do about the wait. The records were never intended to be read today. See: Get a copy of military records of service

Could you (if known) please add his full name, Date of Birth and Service Number? We can then help you navigate applying for his record.

There is a slim history of his unit (run by two members): 8 Medium Regiment RA - The Royal Artillery 1939-45 There appears to be no Wiki for them.

There are four threads here on the unit id'd using: 8 medium regiment ra | WW2Talk

Hi Sophie Do you have an Army number for him?

The four threads on here mentioned above are useful.

Thank you! His service number is 320604 and I have applied for his service record but it looks like that could take a long time to come through
