Afternoon all, Does anyone have the ward diaries of 216? WO 177/821? Does anyone know what kind of details they hold? My grandad was posted here at the end of May 1943 for about 6 days, would love to see if I can find out why, but not sure what details the field ambulance records hold? Thanks
Hi Steve, I assume so, re-checking his record he was admitted and then discharged, after 3 days, not a week. Thanks
So he was “admitted” there as a casualty rather than being “posted“ there for duty? You wont find any personal details/medical records of persons treated there only numbers of patients who passed through. UK MOD don’t release medical details with service records. Steve
What a coincidence, two threads opening up on the same day about medical units and I have some of the diaries. For 216 Field Ambulance, I have a limited number of pages from WO177/821, again covering periods when my father's medical record shows him as being treated there. They are for February, March and April 43 but as Steve says above, wont have any detail of individual men, more the whereabouts of the unit. CCS and hospital diaries can have general medical reports summarizing the types of cases they were handling. Again, if those limited pages were of interest I would be happy to share.
Thanks Hutt, Unfortunately just out of timeframe, but would be interested where they are as late as you have? May give me more of a ballpark of areas that they may have been later on. He was admitted at the end of May. I have a slight difference of opinion, where his service record says 31st May, his tracer card 21st. Am taking the service record as the authority. He was back with his unit 2nd June. Thanks
