Hi, Hope this is the right place for this question. I am looking for info on the 21 Army Group Formation Badge, my Dad (RASC Driver) crossed the channel on 30th June '44 and a photo of him shows the Arms of Service strip on his left arm and above it is a dark coloured shield with a lighter coloured cross on it, there is no sign of a sword or anything on the cross. All examples 21 Army Group Formation badges I have seen 'on the net' seem to have a sword (or two) within the cross. Can anyone shed some light on this please. Cheers, Dave.
What's date of photo? The 38th Div had a similar sign, a black shield with a yellow cross. British Formation Signs IWM photo H 16609 Men of the 10th Royal Welch Fusiliers at Piddlehinton Camp, Dorset
Hi Owen, not sure of the date but I guess at late 1944 or early 1945. I looked at the 38th badge but this badge is 'square' with a yellow cross. The badge on my Dad's battledress is a 'shield' so I guess not the 38th. Dave. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll102/avro626/Dad3.jpg This link will show of photo of him and the badge.
That's not a very good one on that site, I've edited in a better one. Looking at your photo then I think we can discard my 38th Div idea.
The only other info I can give is from his service records which reads "Unit - 710 Coy Gen Tpt - Date 30/6/44 Embarked for BLA". Dave. Just a thought, my Dad said that during his time in France/Holland/Germany he was involved with transporting Bailey Bridges, could 710 Coy be Royal Engineers?
