I am trying to find out hope this local man died. He died 3rd November 1939 and is buried in St Mary and All Saints Lambourne Essex. I have searched all Ancestry records and can only find his birth date and probate record. Can anyone help ? Thanks Patrick
Per CWGC, his army service number is 2082537. Sapper COWELL, EDWARD ELIAS Service Number: 2082537 Died: 03/11/1939 Royal Engineers
Found this link too: Edward Elias Cowell (Unknown-1939) - Find A Grave... I believe the headstone states that he was 23 years of age.
thanks Steve, I do have those details, he is buried in our local churchyard but has a private memorial rather than CWGC. I was hoping to find out how he died Regards Patrick
Hi Casualty Lists on FMP has a little more info but no actual cause of death. Nothing in his RA Casualty card on FMP either Hope this helps Gus
The Casualty Card posted by Gus shows him in 309 Coy, 28th (Essex) Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Engineers. A link to a Wiki background to this unit: 28th (Essex) Searchlight Regiment, Royal Artillery - Wikipedia
Thanks Tony, how sad that he died this way. I don't know whether he has any living relatives in the village who perhaps may not have known of this, but as it was published in the newspaper, one might say it is "common knowledge" Regards,# Patrick
