George Mooney was my father and a great man.
the wedding photo attached was from 1955 and my father’s best man was another Irish Guardsman, Jim McNally.
A chance meeting I had at the Guards Museum in London got me in touch with Jim. Whilst buying my ticket to enter the museum I recognised the gentleman giving me the ticket was wearing an Irish Guards tie, I told him my father was also in The Irish Guards, he asked me my fathers name and you could've heard a pin drop when I told him, he stopped dead in his tracks and said “I was the best man at your parents wedding!”
Jim and I stayed in touch from then onwards until his passing.
The other photos are from a newspaper article of when my father was still playing rugby at 68 years old. He retired from rugby when he was 70!
My father passed away in 1989.
A huge thank you to all that served in our military.
