    Chris,

Always helps to provide the CWGC link: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2630243/clifford-stuart-williams/ Plus his Service Number: T/1438559; that number shows he originally enlisted in the Royal Artillery.

He is shown on the Athens Memorial, one of the many whose body was lost.

There might be others from the RASC that died that day in Greece, so worth searching the CWGC generally or just those commemorated by the Athens memorial.

Get some background from: German invasion of Greece - Wikipedia Operation Demon was the code word for the naval evacuation from Greece. There is a book: A Recipe for Disaster He refers to the unit and has several photos.

The British forces deployed did include an armoured brigade (not the 2nd though) see: 1st Armoured Brigade (United Kingdom) - Wikipedia the 1st Armd Bde came from: 2nd Armoured Division (United Kingdom) - Wikipedia

If you search online with: "Ammunition Sub-Park" site:ww2talk.com it reveals a small number of threads here that explain their role in different places.

There is a diagram for such a unit with a Motor Division in 1940 on: Motor Division Ammunition Sub-Park, RASC, Motor Infantry Division, May 1940

    Now some general research points.

His name or number have not appeared here before.

We always recommend applying for the subject's full service record. Yes, it may take a year to arrive - either from the MoD or National Archives (TNA). It is not available online and is the definitive record. There is nothing you can do about the wait.

If you search online with his unit(s) if known or later, so for example: "XXth Anti-Tank Regiment" site:ww2talk.com that may identify threads mentioning them, at a glance without adding much. If you drop the 'th' more may be found.

Searching the National Archives for the subject or unit(s) can identify those who were awarded honours / medals and the existence of War Diaries – which rarely mention individuals soldiers. They do give context and details of activity.

Some research tips next via PM and good luck.

  3. Thanks for all the useful advice.
I am bemused by the Sub-Park description... I can make no sense of it + what might the vehicle be he was driving.
    Why all of this?
I published a book for the town called Hayle's Heroes 1914-1918 in 2018 and now I am doing the same for the 44 WW2 men engraved in granite on the Hayle War Memorial. Being in Cornwall there are a lot of sailors!
Closing in on 86 I hope I can make it!
    Thanks again.
