I've just bought a book, 'Engines of War, The mechanised Army in action' (1941) it includes 75 photographs in Photogravure no less. With some I'd not seen before.
    Including this one..

Captioned "Men of the Lothian and Border Regiment, now part of the Royal Armoured Corps, overhauling their motor-cycles in a French farmyard."

BSA WD M20s by the look of it.

That's a great photograph and somewhat resembles my idea of heaven (if I assume that's a cask of ale !)

I thought that I had seen it before in manufacturer's advertising but I can't find it again.

Incidentally, the bike at the back, centre with the corporal is the odd one out and a Norton. No mistaking that Edwardian exhaust line and the front brake is on the other side.

I look forward to seeing the other 74 prints.:D

Do you mind if I post this one on the WD M20 forum ?

I thought it was pretty special. Thanks for the Norton spotting, I spent ages trying to make out if they were all the same, or not, and failing.

Help yourself to the picture, no photographer named so we can assume Crown copyright. Too good not to share.

    Cheers,
    Bod

The regiment didn't arrive in France until 12th January 1940 so would I be correct in thinking this picture must have been taken after Feb/March when the snow had gone?
