Hello to all, I'm currently going through a distant relatives service records & on page 2 off his Service & Casualty Form, (B.103), it says attached 1 Div Section Leader School, Kings Lynn. WEF (With effect from) 20.1.42. Posted to 1st BN Loyals Regt from the 148 Regt, RAC (Royal Armoured Corps) WEF 13.1.42. Can anyone give me any info, as to what training was being undertaken, at the above mentioned school? I have attached the Service record. There are just a couple off other acronyms, that I would like some help with in time. Will ask in further posts. I hope that is ok with you all? Thank-you in advance of your time. Stu.. Ha, one has just gleaned that the 148th RAC was assigned to the 33rd Tank Brigade for training. Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire.. Why can I not find any more info on the 1st Bn Loyals Regt, whilst they where still in the UK .Before they left for North Africa, with the 1st Inf Division? Help please??? Cheers Stu.
9 Bn Loyals were an infantry unit that was converted to armour in 1941 (the view was that we didn't have enough tanks given the German victory in France in 1940). When they converted, he was posted out to 1 Loyals, 2 Infantry Brigade, 1 Infantry Division. It's not clear whether his time with the Divisional Section Leader School was as a 'student' or as part of the staff, but I would lean towards the latter as he was recorded as attached rather than attended, and also a private throughout. The school would probably have taken lance corporals and trained them in practical skills such as section tactics, man management, map reading and perhaps methods of instruction with a view to them being earmarked as future corporals and section commanders.
Thanks very much idler, for the all the info, especially that of the Leader School. One had been scratching me head for a while on that one. It seems that some information is easier to find than others. Not meaning to take liberties here, but do you have a source of reference for the Leader School? There are just a couple of acronyms that I'm not sure of, any help would be much appreciated. its about his time with 9th Bn Loyals, whilst they where stationed at Scarborough. first one. Granted (S.P.P.) ?? Pay. second. What do's R.P. letter P/wing. mean.. it appears three times, with two different No's after it. May be a Authority code, not sure? I'm ok with L.S. & G.C. My thinking on that one, is Long Service & Good Conduct. Cheers Stu.
