Hi everybody, i am looking for photos of the 1st Devons from when they served in India and Burma, here are a few i already have. 1st battalion band escorting a new draft of recruits from Rawalipindi station 1939 Some of the new draft Archie Pitt Cpl Scott wearing service dress Francis Pring wearing blues? Group photo somewhere on the frontier. A Vickers machine gun position on a hill somewhere in India. Group shot of members of A Company East Devon men while serving in Burma. Some of the men who had transfered from the 4th Devons when that Battalion left Gibraltar for the UK.
Nice photos Reddevon. All I have are the two photos seen in many books; the men on Nippon Hill and the officers on the Uhkral Road. I'm sure you will have these.
Bamboo43, The picture at Nippon hill is really noticeable. The background features are Scraggy, Crest East and Crest west. I went to the location last month and I am really happy to see the picture you have uploaded. Thanks. Raj.
I posted a picture of A Coy 1 Devons some time ago, I was looking for a bit of help with the location. I'm sure you will be able to find it by my user name. I also have a few more which I will locate on my Random Filing Device (Hard disk with a mind of its own) and post them on here for you.
Unfortunately I have no idea of the context of these pictures except that I'm pretty sure that they were taken in or around Rawalpindi, my father is the chap on the left of the first photo stood by the Ambulance, he is also in the others but you can work that out yourselves. He was A Company, 1st Devons, joining them in India Jan 1937, and with them until wounded in Burma in Jan 1944.
