Hi, I am trying to find a missing persons file at Kew, which is usually under the code WO 361, I have contacted both Kew and Canadian Archives and both said that there is no file that exists about missing paratroopers of 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. The only files I can find pertaining to 1st Canadian Para Bn are 3x War Diaries, one report on the unit in Normandy and number of awards to member of 1 Cdn Para Bn. -WO 179/1994 1 Parachute Bn. 1943 - WO 179/2950 1 Parachute Regt. 1944 Jan.-Dec. - WO 179/4536 1 Parachute Regt. 1945 Jan.- June - WO 223/21 1 Canadian Parachute Bn.: Report 139, 1944 June - Sept. 1947 - WO 373 Awards Does anybody know if a file exists of missing members of 1st Canadian Para Bn at Kew?
There are some very good researchers within this forum that should be able to assist. Another source might be to contact the Regimental Association. Website is 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion C Coy good luck!
All the WO 361 files are listed and can be downloaded here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/research-material/29605-national-archives-catalogue-excel.html Use the one in post 49 as its the updated version after the NA recently released some more files, mainly on the Airborne and Far East.
I looked at the last of the new "Airborne" casualty files today and haven't seen anything related to Canadian units amongst them . There are three related to Sicily (South Staffords, Border and AAC - Ops Ladbroke and Fustian) and the others deal with the Air Despatch Unit losses at Arnhem. It might be worth looking under the wider "AAC" heading rather than the specific unit. John
Thank you all for your help. Have searched post 49 the excel sheet but there was no Canadian Para file. Hope there is a file as it would shed light on many things. Where would I find the "Airborne" casualty files?
