2nd Lieut, W/S Lieut, T/Capt. Nelson Glascot Motion 187104 1st Battalion, The Wiltshire Regiment Awarded the Military Cross Arakan 15th April 1944 For gallant leadership throughout the Campaign and particular gallantry on 15th April 1944. When the feature "Hump" was attacked by his Coy on 15th April, the Company suffered 40 % casualties including the Company Commander and this attack was held up. Captain Motion reorganised the reminder of the Coy and again attacked the objective. His personal example and bravery in the face of very close range fire so inspired his men that they stormed the hill, drove off the Japanese, consolidated and held the hill. Throughout the Campaign this young officer's example and courage was outstanding. LG 22.03.45

Welcome to the mix, Steve, but you have work cut-out ahead of you to really get anywhere. To stand a chance of knowing what he did you will have to obtain his records from here... service records army It will be a slim-to-zero chance to find someone who knew him now - in twelve years of research I have only found one person who knew my father and recognised him in a group picture... good luck... I do know Bideford fairly well though... ps - do post the picture... pps - record searches take time...
