1st Battalion the Welch Regiment

    Can anyone help me with the geographical locations of the above named unit inbetween July 1941 & October 1942 please.

    Here are the moves of the 1st Welch Regiment:


    HQ British Troops in Egypt – 14 June 1941 to 29 November 1941
    The battalion remained at Citadel Barracks in Cairo until it left Cairo on November 29th. It arrived at Mersa Matruh on December 1st, 1941, where it later joined the 38th Indian Infantry Brigade.

    38th Indian Infantry Brigade – 8 December 1941 to 29 December 1941
    The battalion was warned to move to the railhead at Sidi Umar Kaffrani on December 4th and 250 men moved there on December 6th followed by the rest of the battalion on December 9th. It received orders on December 28th to move to Tobruk and join the 5th Indian Infantry Brigade. On December 29th, 1941, it left by motor transport for Tobruk and came under command of 8th Army on arrival.

    5th Indian Infantry Brigade –30 December 1941 to April 1942
    It joined 5th Indian Infantry Brigade on December 30th to replace the 1st Buffs and served with it in Libya until April 1942.

    GHQ Middle East Force – April 1942 to 10 May 1942
    The battalion then returned to Alexandria, Egypt and was sent to the Khartoum in the Sudan.

    HQ Troops Sudan – 10 May 1942 to 14 March 1943
    It relieved the 1st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on May 10th, 1942 at South Barracks in Khartoum with ‘A’ Company at Kufra. In March 1943 ‘D’ Company relieved ‘A’ Company at Kufra. The battalion moved to Shabuka in December 1942 and left the Sudan on March 14th, 1943.
