On Paradata the photograph of the 16th July 1944 investiture held in L'Ecarde Quarry, Amfreville for Commandos and the 6th Airborne Division have two men who have not been named in the photograph Rfmn. Charles Feeney (Newry, County Down) & John Gilliland (Newtonards Belfast) 1st (Airborne) Royal Ulster Rifles, “B” and “C” Company respectively.

Rifleman Feeney and Gilliland were both awarded Military Medals for their action at St Honorine on 7th June 1944.

    War Diary
Rfmn. Charles Feeney (Newry, County Down)
    John Gilliland (Newtonards, Belfast)

I am not sure who is who out of the two, Feeney drowned whilst on patrol on the 24th August 1944 and is buried in Trouville Communal cemetery.

Dose anyone have more information on John Gilliland. This is my 1st Cousin Twice Removed.

He died in 1983 and is buried in Roselawn Cemetery Belfast.

I have been researching my Family Tree and visited his grave a few days ago. I was only 7 year old when he passed away.
