I am trying to locate two brothers graves or details/pictures of whom are believed to have died at the battle of Arnhem, this information has come from thier 88 year old brother and veteran/suvivor of the Bridge over the river Kwai, he has never found out if his Brothers have a grave, where they were killed etc as he was in a POW camp at the time, due to age all he could give me was that his brothers were parachuted into Arnhem and were posibly killed before hitting the ground, they were: ROBERT FRANK KING JIMMY JAMES KING (unsue of spellingsof these) I have searched the war graves site with no luck, I have no further details such as birthdays or numbers, thanks for anyone who can let the old veteran know what happend before he goes to meet them.
HI copperpot, Are you sure you don't mean the Gronerts Twins both of which were killed at Arnhem....Ok I've had a look and found a John King 6458590 11 Para Battalion who is on the wall for the missing at Groesbeek then I found a Ronald King who is at Hotton Cemetery... Not sure if they are Brothers or not I hope this helps some Cheers Tom
Hi Copperpot, As Tom says, there would appear to have been only one casualty at Arnhem with the surname King and that was John King of 11 Para
According to Ancestry - searching for King - 1944 - Netherlands - there are 2 in Sept 1944 but do not seem to relate to your King's Name: Charles William King Age: 26 Birth Date: abt 1918 Death Date: 25 Sep 1944 Cemetery: Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery Burial Country: Netherlands Father: William George King Mother: Annie Maud King Service Number: 5954113 Region or Memorial: Netherlands Name: Leonard Vincent King Age: 22 Birth Date: abt 1922 Death Date: 16 Sep 1944 Cemetery: Hardinxveld (Boven Hardinxveld) General Cemetery Burial Country: Netherlands Father: Percy King Mother: Louisa King Service Number: 120930 Region or Memorial: Netherlands It is also obvious from their parents names that these are not brothers - so not sure where you need to go next TD
I would suggest that people need a bit more to go on such as some service numbers...I regret to have to tell you that many people have relatives with Arnhem and or airborne service and there seems to be little evidence from the time to back up these claims.....There was a similar thread in this 'airborne' forum not so long ago....The war graves commission records are usually pretty good so I feel more info is needed....Sorry....
Would any one have a Nominal Roll for 1st Parachute Brigade Defence Platoon 1946 in Palestine? Regards Steve
