18 pounder gun tractors

    Ben, my feeling is that it is simply a rather bashed around and badly painted 'A 9' sub-unit identifier. It's in the location where the formation sign should be.

    Yes it probably is.

    I looked again at mine today. Similar front section of the wing painted but I can't make out the symbols. I'll rub off a little more paint and see if it becomes clearer.

    I can now add a little more detail to this image...It shows a crowded lane around St Valery-en-Caux with tractors and guns abandoned by 23rd Field Regt. of 51st Division.

    Very nice photos. Apart from the great detail it's nice to see the CDSW towing the 18/25, although no limber?
    The gun breach has been disabled too.

    This is a slightly indistinct image which appears to show a CDSW abandoned probably close to Ghyvelde. It has the 1st Infantry Division triangle and a '3' Arm of Service serial which indicates that 2nd Field Regiment R.A. were using them in May 1940. A nice easy formation sign to paint on a restored vehicle !
