Hi- I'm looking for any sources that mention the short-lived 16th Battalion of the parachute regiment, any photos, rolls of honour, any info about where in India they were based, and particularly whether any of them were dropped operationally, and when they were disbanded. Very many thanks
Hi Ethan, I've attached a PDF authored by Richard A. Rinaldi that should complement the information already gathered in your 'Chindits becoming parachutists' thread. Locations are given and mention is made of a provisional battalion involved in Operation Dracula. Not a lot there that is specifically 16th Battalion unfortunately, but it may lead elsewhere. Other links: 44th Indian Airborne Division - Burna Star Association 44th Airborne Division (India) - Wikipedia John "Jack" Henry Hodgson - 1 Photo (?)
I have in my possesion a copy of an article written by Colonel A W E Daniell who was the original CO of the 16th Battalion. It takes the form of a short history of the battalion from its formation to disbandment and probably covers many of the points you are interested in. The copy I have is a poor photocopy and I don't think it will scan well. It runs to six pages of foolscap if you want to pm me I'll send you a copy. Cheers Arnhem
