Looks like one of my paybooks relates to a Sapper who served with 149 for a decent part of his service - from what I can see they were in 79th Armoured for D-Day but I'm interested to know if they landed on D-Day and if so what they were tasked with and what heavy equipment they used - I'm assuming (risky I know) the Divisions Assault Regiments would have been the ones with AVRE's etc and other attached units flails and so on. Thanks in advance

    Your assumption is correct.

The Assault Park Squadron was part of the war establishment for the Headquarters, 1st Assault Brigade, R.E. (VIII/752/1) with effect from 10.05.1944; there were predecessors not containing this squadron (only headquarters). With effect from 13.01.1945, the squadron got its own war establishment (XIV/903/1).

    Go to Trux' forum
    Assault brigade royal engineers
where you will find the mentioned war establishments with their equipment.

Thanks for that, his tracer card seems to have him with 149 from 16/11/43 and to 1 Assault Brigade HQ 18/8/44 and back to 149 from 13/1/45 (the date you mention for them getting their own War Establishment) - he was a Carpenter & Joiner which shows up in the WE's.
