Does anyone have the exact location of the old Chateau Maes, sometimes referred to as the Chateau Carpenter, which was the 144 Brigade HQ in 1940. It is on the Wormhout-Wylder road and all that is left today are the stables. I can't locate it on Google earth! I apparently still has the lake described by Haywood, adj of 8/Worcesters. Have written to you with instructions on how to locate it, since it is no longer easily visible on latest Google Maps Regards Paul
This French forum describes the stables as the location of the signing of the surrender of Dunkirk in 1945. The plaque is visible on Streetview. Forum Le Monde en Guerre - La Bataille de Wormhout Google Maps The lake is obscured by tree cover on the satelite view. Google Maps
